Street v/s Studio

The biggest misconception about a violent assault or a street fight situation is that they're neat and synchronised. Most martial artists are taught to believe that a simple direct specified reaction, in a specific sequence to a particular assault is the answer. for eg. a Soto Uke for a Jodan Tsuki.
I wish if that was true! But nothing ever happens exactly like you imagine or even practice it. Martial arts teach you to follow a sequence or a kata . Well you know from your life that NOTHING ever goes exatcly as planned. your abiltiy to react and adapt is how you survive. Self defense is no different and is based largely on you adptive skill sets.
In the studio, we may hit our target every time, kick a few inches above our dummy opponents face level but in the real world, you will miss it for SURE. Your target will move and you may even simply slip and fall, or would be restricted to do so because of you saree, or tight pair of jeans . Remember, what can go wrong WILL go wrong!
To survive & save yourself you need a simple set of basic tools that can allow you to adapt, just like you already do. Once they are hard wired you will adapt to any position, any situation that is what Fitcomb offers to teach you - 'developing a mind set, a behavior'!
Till next time.
Practice hard & fight harder

Fair Sex is not Fair

The euphemism uses this adage to denote women as some one who is petite , lovable , needs to be handled with caress or simply said , a softer version of Gods creation . Though it is absolutely fine to extend respect and courtesy but it is dogmatic to  have this mindset exclusively for women. In the last 11 years I have had a great experience of having come across over more than 50,000 women and girls who I had the pleasure of intervening with in the domain of empowerment and self defence. Believe you me , I found most of them very high both on mental and physical robustness with utter disregard to the heresy that haunts them. Whether it was the posh training hall of a big 4 corporate or an open ground in sweltering heat where scores of rural girls were rearing to learn to be able to stand up in the face of an adversary, the 'josh' was nowhere lacking. Not only the enthusiasm , they have always displayed higher conviction towards learning and bestowed highest level of respect t

Covid19 and Virtual Learning

"The ones who will stay in the game will be those who survive." Its time that we endure the testing times and sustain to be able to bounce back. Times are tough, though it could have been prevented but... As a matter of the fact ,history has proven that we as human beings never learn from our mistakes and keep reinventing the wheel of destruction. Having said that it is imperative that we 'adapt and survive' , its NOW that we must carry our detailed analysis and introspection of what we do and more importantly how we do. I have come across a lot of so called professionals who have switched from one trade to another, nothing wrong in it . Then there were host of individuals turned entrepreneurs who got into ppe's probably with an intent to survive or if it may not sound rude make some money out of the situation. Expertise or no expertise , some just tried to ride the wave but every wave settles down sooner or later . People realized that dupattas , scarves , hankey

Krav Maga in Israel

Shalom (Peace always!), Israel is the home to Krav Maga , in hebrew it stands for Contact Combat . This unique and effective fighting system's origin dates back to the 1940's when the holy land was fighting against its oppressors - Kapap, Haganah etc. The Israeli military developed this unique fighting form picking the best of the techniques from boxing, jui justsu, muay thai etc. My trip happened as part of the IKMF (International Krav Maga Federation-Imi ), which organised a Tour & Train session from 14th to 22nd May 09. The entire land smells of high voltage 'security' with gun totting soldiers (both men & women) with stylishly fitted uniforms & hair do's but thorough professionals to the core. The feel of the strict security systems can be sniffed right at the Tel Aviv Airport where waves of security personnel scan your entry into the Holy Land & ensure no mishap. We had proffessionals from the US, UK, Spain, Portugal, Germany, France & Indi
