Krav Maga in Israel

Shalom (Peace always!), Israel is the home to Krav Maga , in hebrew it stands for Contact Combat . This unique and effective fighting system's origin dates back to the 1940's when the holy land was fighting against its oppressors - Kapap, Haganah etc. The Israeli military developed this unique fighting form picking the best of the techniques from boxing, jui justsu, muay thai etc. My trip happened as part of the IKMF (International Krav Maga Federation-Imi ), which organised a Tour & Train session from 14th to 22nd May 09. The entire land smells of high voltage 'security' with gun totting soldiers (both men & women) with stylishly fitted uniforms & hair do's but thorough professionals to the core. The feel of the strict security systems can be sniffed right at the Tel Aviv Airport where waves of security personnel scan your entry into the Holy Land & ensure no mishap. We had proffessionals from the US, UK, Spain, Portugal, Germany, France & Indi...

Gymnasium to Street

Hi, In my last almost 25 years of interface with various martial arts I have come to understand that there are basically 2 types of Fighting Forms: Cultural fighting arts - Karate, Kung Fu, Escrima, Ninjutsu, Kallaripayat etc. Sports fighting arts - Boxing, Karate, Jiujutsu, MMA, Muay Thai etc. Each fighting form claim their respective effectiveness & supremacy but the matter of the fact remains that each has it own niche and downs. The right amalgmation of both by innovators and experts like Imi, Damian Ross, Jim Wagner etc. have led to the creation of 'Reality Based Fighting Systems' such as Commando Krav Maga, Miltary Combat Systems etc. etc The transtion from fighting in a gym / dojo or a cage to the street or any damn place is not easy: Dojos & gyms prepare you to fight with a maximum heart rate of 115 -145 beats/min when motor skills begin to deteriorate & you keep working on your alertness and skills to win or score points . Heart rate >175 takes you to a p...

Pepper Spray

Pepper Spray Pepper Spary is an aerosol based on stored pressure which when actuated releases irritants to cause discomfort to the one it is sparayed at. Pepper spary provides an effective tools of self defence, which temporarily incapacitates an assilant & gives the user an opportunity to escape and survive. Need to know Before picking up a pepper spray, find out as to how many SHU's (Scoville Heat Unit) or the %age of OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) it contains. Most sprays are rated from 500,000 to 2000,000 SHU's , a spray rated closer to 2000,000 SHU's or more would be more effective & a sure 'stopper'. Out of foam , stream or cone type, go in for 'cone' as it has more dispersal properties & hence more effective. Application Keep it handy & easy to retreive Warn the assailant, he may shun his intents & escape Aim at the assilants face & spray short bursts for more coverage Be careful as the spray may get into your eyes or face too, with...
